Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune and MBA graduate from Noida, was found hanging under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area earlier this week. She had married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025 after reportedly meeting him through a dating application in 2024. Police said she was taken to the hospital by her husband and mother-in-law, where she was declared dead on arrival. Twisha, a former Miss Pune 2012, had a brief stint in the entertainment industry, appearing in Telugu films and also working with brands like Dove and L’Oreal. Twisha also held an MBA degree and had worked for several years in Delhi in the field of marketing and communications before her marriage.According to an unverified LinkedIn profile, Twisha Sharma described herself as a “dynamic professional” with experience in marketing management within the restaurant industry. The profile also highlighted her exposure to the performing arts, including acting in advertisements and regional films, along with a stated interest in filmmaking.It further claims she worked as a Marketing Manager at Flavour Pot Foods in Mumbai from July 2014 to April 2020 in a hybrid role, followed by a position as a Communication and Onboarding Manager at the German Academy of Digital Education (DADB).As per the profile, Twisha completed her BBA from Savitribai Phule Pune University in 2014 and later pursued an MBA from NMIMS through distance learning, which she reportedly completed in 2024. She also mentioned experience in performing arts, including lead roles in advertisements and regional films, alongside participation in filmmaking projects.The profile additionally described her as a certified yoga trainer and a Vipassana meditation practitioner.

Dowry Harassment And Allegations Of Abuse

However, after her marriage, she was allegedly facing prolonged harassment, according to her family. They claim she was subjected to dowry-related pressure from the beginning of the marriage. Her father, Navnidhi Sharma,alleged that during the wedding, the groom’s family allegedly threatened to stop the procession unless a “compromise deal” involving money was reached.He further claimed that abuse escalated soon after marriage, including an alleged incident during the honeymoon when Samarth pushed Twisha following a flight delay. He also accused his son-in-law of drug abuse and alleged he had earlier been removed from law college over substance-related issues. The family said Twisha was repeatedly subjected to mental harassment and made to feel “useless” and “incompetent”.

Following protests by Twisha’s family, Bhopal Police registered an FIR against her husband, Samarth Singh and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge, under charges including dowry death and harassment. While Samarth remains absconding, his mother has been granted anticipatory bail.The family alleged that Twisha was subjected to continuous mental harassment, domestic violence and pressure over dowry after marriage. Her brother, Major Harshit Sharma, said she had spoken to her mother shortly before her death and described the alleged abuse at her matrimonial home.The family has also alleged that she was pressured to terminate her pregnancy and transfer shares and investments worth nearly Rs 20 lakh to her husband and in-laws.According to the postmortem report, the cause of death was listed as “antemortem hanging by ligature”. It also noted “multiple antemortem injuries” on different parts of her body. Police said viscera, blood samples and nail samples have been preserved for forensic and DNA examination, while other materials from the scene have been seized.

Counterclaim By In-Laws

The retired judge mother-in-law has alleged that Twisha was struggling with drug addiction and undergoing psychiatric treatment in Bhopal.In the bail application, it is claimed that Twisha experienced physical instability and tremors when she did not consume drugs, and that she could allegedly access narcotics easily in Noida. It further alleged that her behaviour changed after pregnancy, including claims of missing periods and later consumption of marijuana after returning from Noida.The application also stated that she underwent an abortion due to a drug overdose and that her in-laws had been arranging psychiatric treatment for her.
