The United States has also blocked the Strait of Hormuz for ships leaving and entering Iranian ports. Notably, since the start of the Middle East conflict on February 28, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) blocked the keywaterway that accounts for 20 per cent of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade. To meet its consumption, India started purchasing Russian oil after US President Donald Trump claimed that Washington had removed sanctions for some period on purchasing the Russian oil. Also Read: Iran’s USD 2 Million Tax On Some Ships In Strait of Hormuz: What It Means For India’s Oil Supply & Trade For the unversed, India is among a few countries that purchase Iranian oil during the war. It was also confirmed by the Iranian envoy in New Delhi. On April 11 also, India-bound Jag Vikram crossed the key waterway. In total eight Indian ships have crossed the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the conflict. The government informed us that 98 per cent of the LPG bookings are now taking place online while the deliveries are being facilitated via OTPs (one-time passwords). The ministry further informed all the distributors of cooking gas and petrol pumps that they have adequate stocks of energy, adding that the supply also remains normal with a priority focus on domestic consumption.Several Countries Opposed Trump's Hormuz Blockade Move:Trump’s move drew criticism from major countries across the world, including China.
