Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday(May 10) made a sweeping appeal for collective national participation to help India tackle global economic disruptions, supply chain pressures, and rising prices caused by international conflicts. Addressing a rally in Hyderabad, the Prime Minister urged citizens to adopt responsible lifestyles, reduce unnecessary consumption and prioritise national interest during the ongoing global uncertainty.Pointing to the economic impact of wars and global instability, PM Modi said patriotism is not limited to sacrificing one’s life for the country, but also includes fulfilling one’s duties responsibly in difficult times.

PM Calls For Fuel Saving, Work From Home Revival

The Prime Minister urged people to significantly reduce petrol and diesel consumption to help conserve foreign exchange and reduce import dependence.He advised citizens to use metro rail and public transport wherever possible, opt for car-pooling when private vehicles are necessary, and increase the use of electric vehicles. He also encouraged businesses and industries to prefer railway transport for movement of goods in order to reduce fuel consumption.Calling for a return to efficient systems developed during the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Modi said work-from-home arrangements, online conferences and virtual meetings should once again be prioritised in the national interest.

He stressed that reducing fuel usage would help India manage the economic burden created by rising global crude oil prices and supply chain disruptions.

‘Avoid Foreign Trips, Buy Made-In-India’

PM Modi also appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, overseas vacations and destination weddings for at least a year to reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves. He encouraged families to choose domestic tourism and celebrations within India instead.The Prime Minister further requested people to avoid non-essential gold purchases for one year and urged citizens to support locally manufactured products, including daily-use items such as shoes, bags and accessories.

Appeal To Farmers And Families

Addressing the agriculture sector, PM Modi urged farmers to reduce chemical fertiliser usage by 50 percent and gradually move towards natural farming practices to protect soil health and reduce India’s import dependence.He also encouraged wider adoption of solar-powered irrigation pumps instead of diesel pumps in agriculture.The Prime Minister additionally advised families to reduce edible oil consumption, saying it would benefit both the country’s economic health and people’s personal health.
