Popular educator Faisal Khan, widely known as "Khan Sir", has been named in an FIR in connection with the firing and vandalism incident at his coaching institute in Patna earlier this week, marking a major development in a case that has sparked controversy and triggered protests among students. He is likely to surrender today before court.Patna Police confirmed that Khan Sir has been booked along with two others and will be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
What Happened on June 2?
According to police, a group of 15-20 people allegedly vandalised the Khan Global Studies Institute near Musallahpur Haat in Patna and pelted stones at the premises on the night of June 2.The incident took place around 10:10 pm and led to the registration of a case at Kadamkuan Police Station. Following the attack, an investigation was launched to determine the sequence of events and identify those involved.The episode drew significant attention after reports emerged that shots had also been fired during the disturbance, leaving a security guard injured.
FIR Against Khan Sir
In a statement, Patna Police said an FIR has now been registered against Khan Sir and two others under provisions related to abetment and the Arms Act.The FIR invokes Section 109 (Abetment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25(9), 27 and 35 of the Arms Act.Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Sharma confirmed that the educator has been named in the FIR and will be questioned by investigators. However, he did not elaborate on the specific allegations against Khan Sir.
Video Footage Leads to Arrest of Two Guards
A key development in the investigation came after police recovered a video purportedly showing two individuals firing shots into the air following the vandalism."Following the incident, Case No. 410/26 was registered, and an investigation was launched. During the course of the probe, a video was recovered which showed two individuals engaging in aerial firing following the act of vandalism," the police statement said.After verifying the footage, police identified and detained two security guards associated with the coaching institute. The guards were subsequently arrested.The police said that based on the investigation, the sequence of events and the recovery of weapons, Khan Sir and two others were named in the FIR."The weapons used in the incident have been seized and forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination," the Office of the City Superintendent of Police (Central), Patna, said."Further action will be taken based on the evidence collected during the ongoing investigation," it added.PTI, however, noted that it could not independently verify the authenticity of the video circulating on social media.
Rival Coaching Institute Angle
Soon after the vandalism incident, Khan Sir alleged that individuals linked to a rival coaching institute were behind the attack and the reported firing.However, he later adopted a more cautious stance, saying only a police investigation could conclusively establish whether firing had actually taken place and who was responsible.The controversy deepened when members of a rival coaching institute held a press conference on Thursday and alleged that Khan Sir himself had orchestrated the incident. Those allegations remain unverified and are now part of the wider narrative surrounding the case.The incident triggered strong reactions from students.On June 3, a day after the violence, a large crowd of students gathered outside Khan Global Studies and staged protests demanding justice and enhanced security.Heavy security deployment was made in the area as tensions remained high."We want justice. We want security. We want security," a student told ANI while participating in the protest outside the institute.Large numbers of aspirants were seen waiting outside the coaching centre and raising slogans amid concerns over safety following the incident.With Khan Sir now formally named in the FIR, investigators are expected to question him regarding the circumstances surrounding the firing and vandalism episode.Police say the forensic examination of the seized weapons, analysis of video evidence and witness statements will help determine accountability and establish the exact sequence of events.The case has attracted widespread attention in Bihar due to Khan Sir's popularity among competitive exam aspirants and the growing rivalry among major coaching institutes in Patna, a city regarded as one of eastern India's biggest education hubs.
