The
legal battle in the death case of Twisha Sharma has now reached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, with her husband Samarth Singh challenging the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea, while Twisha’s family prepares to seek cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to his mother, Giribala Singh.Samarth Singh, who has been declared absconding by police, approached the High Court claiming that the sessions court wrongly denied him relief despite granting anticipatory bail to his mother in the same case. Police have already announced a reward against him and intensified efforts to trace him.
Samarth Claims Case Based on ‘Imagination and Presumptions’
In his petition, Samarth Singh argued that the allegations of dowry harassment were doubtful and claimed that he and his mother had transferred more than Rs 7 lakh to Twisha’s account.“The WhatsApp chats presented by the complainant are edited and incomplete. The same being tampered cannot be relied upon,” the plea stated. The petition further claimed that there was no material directly linking him to Twisha’s death. “The entire prosecution story being constructed and built is based on imagination and presumptions,” it said.Samarth also alleged that Twisha suffered from “drug addiction and related complications of withdrawal symptoms” and argued that custodial interrogation was not required in the case.
Meanwhile, Twisha’s family is preparing to move the High Court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh, alleging influence over the investigation and postmortem process. While granting anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh, the sessions court observed that the allegations against her appeared “formal in nature”. However, while rejecting Samarth Singh’s plea, the court noted that Twisha had died “within six months of marriage under abnormal circumstances” and that WhatsApp chats and witness statements prima facie pointed towards his involvement.Twisha, a Noida-based actor and model, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, less than six months after her marriage. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, emotional abuse and abetment to suicide.
