Lucknow: An FIR has been registered in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh after Indian cricketer Vipraj Nigam received multiple threat calls from international numbers.The FIR was lodged at Kotwali Nagar
police station in the district after cricketer, Vipraj Nigam, lodged a complaint alleging that he was receiving repeated threat calls and messages from multiple international numbers for over two months.According to the FIR, Vipraj Nigam, a resident of Barabanki, said that since September 2025, he was getting threat calls and abusive messages from a woman identified as Richa Purohit. Initially, the calls were made from one mobile number, but after he blocked it, the same person allegedly began using several foreign numbers to continue the harassment.The victim alleged that the woman threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases if he did not comply with her demands and she also allegedly circulated objectionable and fabricated content, including fake videos on social media, to tarnish his reputation.Nigam claimed that his family members and friends were also threatened, causing him mental distress and fear.Based on the complaint police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS. The Barabanki police have now launched an investigation to trace the origin of the international calls and verify the allegations made by the cricketer Vipraj Nigam.Nigam was picked for 50 lakh by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2025 and he made his IPL debut against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Vizag.
