Mumbai: On the occasion of Maharashtra Foundation Day, discussions about Marathi restrictions are gaining momentum. Maharashtra cabinet minister Pratap Sarnaik has given a clear message that everyone employed in Maharashtra must know Marathi. He has also issued an ultimatum to auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers to learn Marathi. On May 1, celebrating the occasion of Maharashtra Day, the Uttar Bharatiya Sangh distributed sewing machines to women for self-employment.At the Uttar Bharatiya Sangh's Maharashtra Day celebrations, political leader Kripa Shankar Singh said, "If North Indians try their best, learning Marathi isn't difficult. We accept the challenge to learn Marathi. By August 15th, North Indians should learn basic spoken Marathi. I promise
that on the next Maharashtra Day, a North Indian auto driver will sing the Maharashtra state song with everyone."Uttar Bharatiya Sangh President Santosh RN Singh said, "We North Indians have received respect and employment in Maharashtra. We cannot repay that debt, but the North Indian Association is playing a role in making women self-reliant." Santosh Singh added, "Marathi is not just a language, but the soul of this place—and I am proud of it. Maharashtra has embraced North Indian society, and we will always be indebted to it. 'Jai Maharashtra' is not just a slogan, but a feeling from the heart." Today's event is to express gratitude on behalf of all North Indians to our brothers and sisters in Maharashtra. Our sisters in Mumbai, Maharashtra, should become empowered, self-reliant, and able to support their families. Everyone should be proud of every language in the country. The state leaders who say that Marathi should be spoken are right. One should definitely learn a little of the spoken language, which increases a sense of belonging."
