New Delhi: None of the gunmen who killed tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025 lived. Their neutralisation marked not only the final phase of a lengthy search operation but also symbolised the change of policy of India regarding terrorist acts. Not stopping at a series of airstrikes on terror camps located in Pakistani territory in May 2025, the Indian security forces continued the mission. Among other things, the series of operations named "Mahadev" and "Antim Badla" proved that today's army can go far beyond traditional rules of warfare. These counter-terrorism strikes were not impulsive attacks; they are rather a result of long-term preparation, cooperation, and control. Thus, India's approach to counter-terrorism can be described as a completely
new strategy of dealing with this problem. To commit a massacre in Pahalgam in April 2025, the terrorists of TRF aimed not only to kill but also to send a specific message: nowhere will be safe; peace in the whole of South Asia will be undermined by one terror attack. The answer to that was quite logical—India responded similarly, proving to all that the terrorist organisation will get the reply that is worth remembering. What followed the terror attack in Pahalgam was not a rapid strike against suspected individuals; instead, it was a very carefully elaborated plan, which involved many factors. First, India gathered human intelligence, signals intelligence, and conducted surveillance to understand where the perpetrators ofthe crime could be hiding and how to track them down. Second, Indian troops were able to find those criminals in the mountains, which is not an easy thing to do.Also Read: Indian Navy Was Minutes Away From Striking Pakistan During Op Sindoor: Navy Chief Reveals Why Mission Was AbortedOperation Mahadev is thought to be the first step in the operation to stop the terrorists. It involved several things, such as using reconnaissance drones and satellites to gather information, finding important people connected to the terror attack, and working together with different agencies. After getting all the information they needed, the forces moved toward their targets quickly and quietly, showing a lot of discipline that wasn't typical of previous counterinsurgency operations. In contrast to Mahadev, operation Antim Badla was aimed at eliminating infiltration paths, which allowed criminals to enter Indian territory and commit an attack, seizing their caches, communication centres, and other resources. In such a way, this counter-terror operation sought to prevent future incidents of terror,r not only to bring justice to those killed in April but also to make the country safer for its citizens.
