Six
tourists died while 4 others suffered serious injuries when a vehicle carrying them fell into a deep gorge in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Monday (May 11). According to officials, the accident took place around 3:00 am near the Ghar area on the Chamba–Nurpur National Highway. The vehicle, Innova Crysta bearing a Mandi registration number, reportedly lost control and plunged nearly 300 metres into the gorge. Police said the vehicle was carrying tourists from Gujarat at the time of the accident.

Rescue Operation And Investigation
Local residents and police teams rushed to the site soon after receiving information about the crash. A rescue operation was launched immediately in the difficult terrain to pull out the victims from the deep gorge.Officials confirmed that all six bodies were recovered from the site and sent for post-mortem examination. The injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be critical.Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle on the hilly stretch, though the exact cause of the accident is still under inquiry. Police have initiated further investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.This is the second major road accident reported in Himachal Pradesh within a month, once again raising serious concerns over highway safety in the hill state.In April, three tourists lost their lives and 17 others were injured after a vehicle fell into a deep gorge near Jalori Jot in Kullu district. That incident had already sparked concerns over the safety of hilly roads, especially for tourist vehicles navigating sharp turns and steep terrain.
