Assam Flood Death Toll Rises to 31, Over 7 Lakh People Affected Across 25 Districts

The flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical, with the death toll rising to 31 and more than 7 lakh people affected across 25 districts, according to official data shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.Officials said 31 people have lost their lives due to floods across seven districts this year, while one additional death has been reported due to urban flooding in Kamrup Metropolitan district.Among the worst-hit districts, Sivasagar has reported the highest number of fatalities with 14 deaths, followed by Charaideo with 6, Jorhat with 5, Dhemaji with 2, Golaghat with 2, Sonitpur with 1 and Karbi Anglong with 1. Authorities also confirmed that three people remain missing in Dhemaji, Charaideo and Karbi Anglong.The floods have affected 25 districts, including

Goalpara, Cachar, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Biswanath, Charaideo, Nalbari, Bajali, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Sivasagar, Darrang, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri, Golaghat, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan and Hojai.According to the latest assessment, 74 revenue circles and nearly 1,700 villages have been inundated by floodwaters.To support displaced families, the state administration has set up 95 relief camps, providing shelter to around 18,500 people. Additionally, 469 relief distribution centres have been established across the state to supply food, drinking water and other essential items to affected residents.The floods have also caused extensive damage to property, with 401 houses completely destroyed and 1,848 houses partially damaged. Livestock losses have also been significant. Officials said 185 animals have died or been washed away, including 119 large animals, 31 small animals and 35 poultry birds. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the flood-affected districts on Wednesday to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures and interact with affected families.
