In addition to the commercial cylinder, the price of the 5-kg free trade LPG (FTL) also increased by Rs 11 from June 1, adding to the burden on consumers amid continued volatility in global energy markets linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by Rs 42 per cylinder, taking its retail price in Delhi to Rs 3,113.5. The 5-kg FTL cylinder will now cost Rs 821.5.However, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder, which continues to be sold at Rs 913 per cylinder. This is the fourth increase in commercial LPG prices since the West Asia conflict began on February 28. The last hike came on May 1, when the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder was raised
by a steep Rs 993 per cylinder. It was preceded by a Rs 195.5 increase on April 1 and a Rs 115 hike on March 7.The 5-kg free-trade LPG cylinder has also experienced repeated increases during the same period. After a Rs 51 hike on April 1, its price wasincreased by Rs 261 on May 1. The latest Rs 11 increase marks the third hike since the conflict began. The rising cost of the 5-kg cylinder is expected to disproportionately impact migrant workers and low-income households in urban and semi-urban areas, who often rely on free-trade LPG cylinders due to the absence of local address proof required for regular domestic LPG connections. The latest revision reflects the continuing pressure on fuel prices as the prolonged conflict in West Asia disrupts energy markets and raises import costs.
