Actor-turned-politician Vijay is considering two Assembly constituencies in Chennai for his maiden electoral contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly election, according to sources in his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), reports PTI. Party sources said Vijay is weighing the options of contesting from Velachery or Virugambakkam in Chennai and is seeking feedback from senior party functionaries before taking a final call. Both constituencies have personal and political significance for the actor, they said.Velachery is a rapidly growing urban constituency located a few kilometres from Vijay’s residence in Panaiyur, while Virugambakkam is where his parents live. Sources said Vijay is also assessing other constituencies outside Chennai,
including Vikravandi in Villupuram district, Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district and Vedasandur in Karur district.
According to party insiders, the initial shortlist focused on constituencies beginning with the letter “V,” following advice that such seats offered stronger winning prospects. However, the final decision will rest with Vijay, they added.Vikravandi holds particular importance for the party as it hosted TVK’s first political conference, where Vijay formally outlined the party’s ideological direction. At the event, he described TVK as a secular social justice movement inspired by the ideals of B.R. Ambedkar, social reformer Periyar EV Ramasamy and former chief minister K Kamaraj.During the conference, Vijay described the Bharatiya Janata Party as his “ideological enemy” and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as his “political enemy,” while also signaling openness to sharing power with like-minded parties in the 2026 election.Vijay’s political journey began through his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, whose candidates won 115 seats in the 2021 rural local body elections across nine districts, boosting his political profile.
