An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck Morigaon in Assam in the early hours of Monday, January 5, the National Centre for Seismology reported. The tremor occurred at 4:17 am IST, with
the epicentre at latitude 26.37°N and longitude 92.29°E, at a depth of 50 km. Tremors were felt in Morigaon, but no immediate reports of damage or casualties have emerged.
