continued to wreak havoc across the country on Friday (July 10), triggering landslides and floods from the hills of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh to the river plains of the northeast, killing at least two people and blocking over 118 roads, even as parts of Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan saw a dry day after days of incessant downpours.
Uttarakhand: Teenager Dead, 118 Roads Blocked, Yamunotri Highway Damaged
Heavy rain battered Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours, killing a teenager, injuring several others and forcing school closures across the state. Landslides blocked 118 roads, including the Yamunotri National Highway, where a 100-metre stretch near Syanachatti in Uttarkashi district was damaged and repair work is currently underway. The Gangotri National Highway also faced frequent disruptions due to falling boulders at Nagun and Nalu Pani.
Continuous rainfall caused the Ganga, Yamuna and their tributaries, along with several smaller rivers, to swell dangerously. Officials said vigilance has been stepped up following the IMD's forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Himachal Pradesh: Boulders Kill Elderly, 27 Roads Shut In Shimla Alone
In Himachal Pradesh, a 70-year-old man was killed after being hit by falling boulders on the Buanda-Chwai road in Kullu. Two more persons sustained injuries after a boulder struck their vehicle in Solan's Arki area. Schools remained closed in many parts of the state, and 27 link roads were closed to vehicular traffic in Shimla alone. Rockfall was reported along the Kalka-Shimla National Highway and on stretches between Waknaghat and Kandaghat and between Dharampur and Chakki Mod.
In Kinnaur district, a valley bridge that had been left hanging precariously in mid-air collapsed on Saturday night, completely severing connectivity to the Sangla Valley. The bridge had been in a vulnerable condition since Friday, when heavy rainfall triggered a landslide beneath its lower section, leaving it suspended. The bridge was constructed last year with assistance from the BRO and the Army.

Sirmaur and Solan districts received the heaviest rainfall since Thursday evening, the local meteorological department said.Meanwhile, across the state, the impact of continuous heavy rainfall has disrupted essential infrastructure, with approximately 320 roads blocked and more than 200 electricity transformers rendered non-functional.
Evacuations in Mizoram and Tripura, Tourists Stranded For Days
In the northeast, the rain has forced large-scale evacuations and left tourists stranded. In Mizoram's Lunglei district bordering Bangladesh, over 80 families were evacuated after the Khawthlangtuipui river overflowed. National Highway 54 has been blocked by a massive landslide near Bualte village, where several tourists have been stranded for four days, with the blockage continuing to cut off the southern districts of Lawngtlai and Siaha from the rest of the state. The Aizawl-Thenzawl-Lunglei highway has also been blocked due to rockfall. Landslides and rain-related incidents have been reported at over 29 locations across the state, though no casualties have been reported.
In Tripura, heavy downpours over the past several days have damaged over 4,000 houses and forced around 11,000 people to seek refuge in relief camps, though no loss of life has been reported so far.In Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, flash floods inundated the Ari area of Mendhar sub-division, damaging several houses and leaving dozens stranded.
Police personnel launched a rescue operation and safely evacuated at least 25 people.
