Times Now has accessed exclusive visuals of one of the two Indian-flagged tankers allegedly targeted by Iran’s IRGC-linked gunboats in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, showing the impact of the damage. The visuals show shattered glasses and visible holes in the ship’s structure. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that no crew injuries members were injured in the incident.The MEA also said that India is in touch with Iranian authorities to secure safe passage for Indian vessels stranded in the Strait. Addressing a press conference, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We are in touch with Iran and others so that we have a safe exit of our ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The firing incident happened on Saturday, and we took
up the matter strongly after receiving information about the same."
"We called in the Iranian ambassador and held a meeting with the foreign secretary, who conveyed our deep concerns on the incident and reiterated that we attach high importance to the safety and security of our mariners and that there should be unimpeded transit. The ambassador said this would be conveyed to the authorities back home. We continue to be in touch with the authorities for the safety of our ships," Jaiswal added.
What Happened on Saturday
On Saturday, Indian-flagged vessels including - very large crude carrier Samnar Herad and bulk carrier Jag Arnav - reported a firing incident while transiting the hormuz strait in the past 24 hours and returned to the Persian Gulf. No injuries were reported among the crew.India's foreign secretary Vikram Misri summoned Iran's ambassador in New Delhi to convey "deep concern" over the incident and underscored the importance of ensuring the safety of merchant shipping and mariners.He urged Tehran to relay India's position to its authorities and to resume facilitating India-bound vessels through the route at the earliest."The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi was called in yesterday by the Ministry of External Affairs for a meeting with Foreign Secretary. During the meeting, Foreign Secretary conveyed India's deep concern at the shooting incident earlier yesterday involving two Indian-flagged ships in the Strait of Hormuz. He noted the importance that India attached to the safety of merchant shipping and mariners," the update said.Reiterating his concern at this serious incident of firing on merchant ships, "Foreign Secretary urged the Ambassador to convey India's views to the authorities in Iran and resume at the earliest the process of facilitating India-bound ships across the Strait," it said.The situation, it said, "continues to be closely monitored in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and relevant stakeholders. All Indian seafarers are safe."The Strait of Hormuz continues to remain block amid an escalating standoff between the United States and Iran.
