'I No Longer Have the Courage': NEET Aspirant's Heartbreaking Suicide Note Reveals Exam Stress, Fear of Another Attempt

Nagpur: A tragic incident has been reported from Nagpur, where an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh allegedly died by suicide after facing intense academic pressure and emotional distress linked to reports of exam irregularities.The student, identified as Akanksha Chaturvedi from Mauganj district, was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) at a coaching institute in Nagpur. She was found hanging in her room on May 20.According to her family, a handwritten note recovered later reflects her mental struggle and fear of not being able to clear the competitive exam again. In the note, she expressed that despite earlier good performance, she felt uncertain and overwhelmed about repeating the attempt, apologising

to her parents for “failing them.”

Her father, Krishna Kumar Chaubey, reportedly went to great lengths to support her education, working as a cook in Nagpur in addition to farming to meet expenses.According to the relatives, the family had taken a loan of nearly ₹3 lakh under the Kisan Credit Card scheme and also sought financial assistance from relatives to fund her coaching and preparation.

“Mom and Dad, you had faith that your daughter would study hard and become a doctor, but I no longer have the courage to take the NEET exam again. I was scoring good marks in my first attempt, but now there is no guarantee that I will perform well again. I am sorry, Mom and Dad. I have ruined everything.”The death was reported on May 20th; however, Nagpur police have now recovered a suicide note in the NEET aspirant case, confirming details of the student’s emotional distress and exam-related stress.Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the alleged suicide of a NEET aspirant, saying an entire generation of young Indians is paying the price for how the country's education system has been "ruined" over the past 12 years.In a post on X, Gandhi highlighted the struggles of Akanksha's family and the sacrifices made to support her dream of becoming a doctor."Akanksha aspired to become a doctor and serve her country and society. Akanksha's father is a farmer. To support his daughter's dream of becoming a doctor, he took out a loan of Rs 3 lakh against his Kisan Credit Card. He even took up a job as a cook in Nagpur himself, so that his daughter could attend coaching classes there," Gandhi said.The Congress leader said Akanksha's death reflected the deep crisis in India's education system and the burden being borne by students and their families.
