In a big revelation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that singer Zubeen Garg did not die in an accident but was murdered. The statement came during an adjournment motion in the
state Assembly, filed by the Opposition seeking a detailed discussion on the 2024 death case.The Assam CM told the House that new evidence examined by investigators indicates foul play, adding that the nature of the findings “rules out accidental death.” While the Chief Minister did not reveal specifics due to the sensitivity of the ongoing probe, he assured that the government “will not shield anyone” and that arrests will follow once the investigation reaches its conclusion.This is not the first time Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hinted that Zubeen Garg’s death may not have been accidental. In earlier statements made over the past few months, Sarma had repeatedly suggested that “something was not adding up” in the findings and indicated that the government was examining angles beyond an accident.“I am not terming it an accident. The charge-sheet in Zubeen Garg's murder case needs to be submitted by December 17. I have set a target to submit it by December 8. We are ready now,” Sarma told reporters in Tezpur, as quoted by PTI.A Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police is currently investigating the case. The probe began after more than 60 FIRs were filed across the state demanding a detailed inquiry into Garg’s death.Singer-actor Zubeen Garg died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19 while swimming in the sea. He was in the city-state to attend the fourth edition of the North East India Festival (NEIF).
