International Yoga Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm in Assam, Witnessed by Nirmala Sitharaman

International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm, highlighting India’s ancient tradition that has now evolved into a global symbol of a healthy lifestyle.This year marks the 11th International Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21, 2026. The theme for this year is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” emphasizing the deep connection between individual well-being and the health of the planet. The theme highlights how yoga promotes a balanced lifestyle while fostering harmony with nature.In Assam, special events have been organized to mark the occasion, with a major celebration taking place at the Brahmaputra Heritage Centre in Guwahati. The venue, located along the scenic banks of the Brahmaputra River, witnessed large

participation from yoga enthusiasts, students, instructors, and members of various organizations.Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended the event as the chief guest, joined by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Ashok Singhal, Minister Ajanta Neog, and local MLA Bijay Gupta. Their presence added significance to the occasion and underscored the government’s commitment to promoting health and wellness.Speaking about the Yoga Day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Today, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, it is a proud moment for all of us. We are honoured that the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman joined us on this special day.""Across Assam, people from all sections of society women, children, and the elderly have participated in yoga with great enthusiasm. It is estimated that nearly 35 lakh people have taken part in the celebrations across the state. I extend my heartfelt wishes to everyone on International Yoga Day and urge all to make yoga a part of their daily lives for a healthier and happier future," he added.Participants gathered early in the morning to perform yoga in an open environment, enhancing the overall experience. The serene backdrop of the Brahmaputra River further elevated the atmosphere, making the session both refreshing and inspiring.The Chief Minister, along with other dignitaries and citizens, actively participated in the yoga session, sending a strong message about the importance of physical and mental well-being.
