Monsoon Fury In Gujarat: Over 250 Evacuated As Heavy Rain Triggers Floods, IMD Issues Warning

Heavy rainfall and strong winds triggered widespread flooding along Gujarat's Gir Somnath coast, prompting large-scale rescue operations as authorities evacuated residents from affected areas. Four people trapped inside a flooded house were also rescued, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the monsoon remains active over Saurashtra-Kutch and forecast more heavy rainfall across several districts in the state over the coming days.The largest rescue operation was conducted in Gangda village, where around 250 people were evacuated after the Rupen River breached its embankment following intense rainfall. Road areas of the village, inundating houses.Heavy rain and strong winds also affected the district's coastline, where rough sea conditions caused several anchored vessels to break free.According to the administration, five to six boats and two to three small fishing craft anchored in the creek area near Syed Rajpara village in Una taluka drifted into the sea after their anchors gave way under the combined impact of strong winds, heavy rainfall and the forceful river current.

Monsoon continues to advance in Gujarat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said the monsoon is active in Gujarat and conditions are favourable for it to advance further into some more parts of the state as well as north Arabian Sea. On Sunday, Amreli district's Rajula witnessed 228 mm rainfall until, followed by Dhari (174 mm) and Khambha (140 mm). It prompted the Amreli district administration to request citizens to follow alternative routes in Jafrabad and Rajula due to road closures."Monsoon was active over Saurashtra-Kutch and normal over Gujarat region, with extremely heavy at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra, namely Amreli and Bhavnagar," the IMD said in its evening forecast.Conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into some more parts of the north Arabian Sea and Gujarat, it added.The weather office has forecast more showers in several districts in the state on Monday."Heavy to very heavy rain with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Dang, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli from 8.30 am on Monday until 8.30 am on July 8," the bulletin informed.
