The Election Commission of India has published the draft electoral rolls for West Bengal following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR), removing more than 58 lakh names from the voter list ahead of Assembly elections due next year. The move has led to both administrative action and political debate, also opening a window for voters to verify and, if needed, restore their names.According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 58,20,898 voters were deleted from the rolls on grounds such as death, permanent migration, duplicate entries and non-submission of enumeration forms. This has reduced the state’s electorate from about 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore voters, official data showed. The draft rolls were published on Tuesday and are available both online
and offline. The Commission said deletion at this stage is not final and eligible voters can still file claims and objections. How to Check Your Name in the Voter ListVoters can verify their details through multiple channels:Online:Visit the ECI portal at eci.gov.in or the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer’s website ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in.Enter your name or EPIC (voter ID) number to check your status.Deleted Voters List:Those who suspect their names may have been removed can check the dedicated SIR page at ceowestbengal.wb.gov.in/asd_sir using their EPIC number or constituency details.Offline Help:Voters can approach their local Block Development Office, Booth Level Officer (BLO) or Booth Level Assistants associated with political parties for assistance.
