Mumbai: Times Now, one of India’s leading English news channels, on Sunday marked its 20th anniversary, reflecting on two decades of shaping public discourse and redefining television journalism.Launched
in 2006, Times Now entered a media landscape where news was measured and primetime debates were restrained. Over the years, the channel established itself as a platform for sharp debates, persistent questioning, and journalism aimed at demanding accountability. Iconic programs such as The Newshour, India Upfront, Frankly Speaking, Blueprint, and NewsHour @9 & 10 became appointment viewing for audiences seeking depth and context.Times Now has also been known for editorial campaigns aimed at driving change. Initiatives such as End VIP Raj, Swachh Neta, End Triple Talaq, Right to Pray, and Path to Life began as discussions within the newsroom and went on to influence public opinion and policy debates.Commenting on the milestone, Vineet Jain, Managing Director of The Times Group, said, “Twenty years ago, when Times Now began its journey, the media landscape in India looked very different. News moved at a different pace, screens were fewer, and expectations were simpler. Even then, one belief was clear and unwavering — that India deserved journalism that was fearless, credible, and deeply rooted in the truth. Today, as Times Now turns 20, I feel immense pride in saying that this belief has not only endured, but it has also grown stronger with time.”Jain added that the future of news would require “sharper insights, faster adaptation, deeper storytelling, and an even stronger bond of trust with our audiences,” emphasising the channel’s focus on digital innovation and nurturing young journalistic talent.Ashish Sehgal, CEO of Times Television Network, said, “Times Now is a broadcast channel with a difference. Over the years, the channel has marched ahead of the competition through its commitment, record-breaking content and award-winning journalism. Its leadership is a testimony to the grit, resilience and solidarity of the team, and to the trust reposed by viewers who see Times Now as an agent of change in India and across the world.”Navika Kumar, Group Editor-in-Chief of Times Now and Times Now Navbharat, who has been with the channel since its inception, added, “As Times Now completes 20 years of being India's news headquarters, we salute a journey defined by credible, fearless, and action-oriented journalism. Since its inception, Times Now has gone beyond merely reporting to empower the public by keeping truth at the forefront and holding power to account.”To commemorate the milestone, Times Now has curated a series of conversations with prominent personalities, including legendary cricketer Kapil Dev and actor Vikrant Massey, highlighting the channel’s influence over two decades of Indian journalism. With a focus on credible, fearless, and independent journalism, Times Now has positioned itself as a key voice in Indian media, consistently driving national conversations and empowering viewers to stay informed and engaged.
