CSIR–Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI).Union Minister Jitendra Singh hailed the move as proof that "Videshi has turned Swadeshi," calling it a proud moment for India's food innovation ecosystem. "It showcases how Indian science and traditional nutrition are reshaping global food trends," he said.The introduction marks a symbolic milestone in India's Millet Mission, a campaign that gained international traction after the UN declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push on the global stage.
"A grand vindication for India's Millet movement which had gained momentum with the UN declaring 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ at the behest of India with the personal intervention of PM Modi," he added.With the millet now finding its way into McDonald's menus, the government said it is a proud moment showcasing how Indian innovation and traditional nutrition are reshaping global food trends.Millet is a common term to categorise small-seeded grasses that are often termed nutri-cereals and includes Sorghum (Jowar), Pearl Millet (Bajra), Finger Millet (Ragi), Little Millet (Kutki), Foxtail Millet (Kakun), Proso Millet (Cheena), Barnyard Millet (Sawa), Kodo Millet (Kodon) and other millets.PM Modi had revealed that about 2.5 crore small farmers are directly involved in the production of millets in the country and India's Millet Mission campaign will prove to be a boon for them.
