Assam Flood Situation Improves; Still 5.24 Lakh Remain Hit Across 5 Districts, Death Toll Reaches 68 - Latest Updates

Guwahati: The flood situation in Assam slightly improved on Sunday. However, over 5.24 lakh people still remain affected across five districts of the state. Meanwhile, the death toll due to flood-related incidents has increased to 68 with two more fatalities. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 5,24,700 people have been impacted in Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Sivasagar districts. Charaideo is the worst-hit district, with nearly 1.9 lakh people affected, followed by Sivasagar with over 1.5 lakh affected people and Jorhat with around 1.40 lakh people, reported PTI.The flood situation improved since Saturday, when nearly 6.55 lakh people were affected across six districts. As per the ASDMA, the government

is operating 354 relief camps and aid distribution centres in four districts where 37,724 displaced people are being taken care of.

The rescue and relief operations have been carried out by multiple agencies, including the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the state Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), Fire & Emergency Service and the police.Currently, 763 villages are under water, and 48,742.09 hectares of crop area have been damaged across Assam, as per the ASDMA. Several embarkments, roads, bridges, and other pieces of infrastructure have been damaged in the floods triggered by heavy showers. The Dhansiri river at Numaligarh is flowing above the danger level, the ASDMA said.Meanwhile, 88,240 domestic animals and poultry have also been affected across Assam.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Statement:

Sarma said that amid the improving flood situation in the state, power restoration work is under progress.“As Assam steadily recovers from the floods, power restoration efforts continue across affected districts. Following the precautionary suspension of electricity supply during the floods, @apdclsocial teams have been carrying out comprehensive safety inspections while restoring power in a phased manner across Sivasagar, Jorhat, Charaideo, Dhubri, Bongaigaon & other affected areas. We remain committed to restoring essential services at the earliest and ensuring every affected community returns to normalcy,” Sarma said in his X post.

Assam’s IAS Association Announces Contribution Of One Day's Salary By Its Members

The IAS Association, Assam, on Sunday announced that its members will contribute one day's salary to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to support people affected by the unprecedented floods in the state. According to the association, officers of the rank of Commissioner and Secretary and above will voluntarily contribute a minimum of Rs. 10,000, while other officers will contribute at least Rs. 5,000.

In a post on X, the association said the initiative reflects its collective commitment to stand with flood-affected citizens.(With inputs from PTI)
