External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday said he received a phone call from Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, during which the two leaders held detailed discussions on various aspects of the current situation. "Received a phone call from Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi of Iran this evening. Had a detailed conversation about various aspects of the current situation. We agreed to remain in close touch," External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar wrote on X.While formal talks are stalled, the White House has said that negotiators are continuing
to engage with the Iranians, who are “struggling to sort out their leadership situation” amid the war. In a statement to US media, spokesperson Anna Kelly said US President Donald Trump would only enter into an agreement with Iran that “puts US national security first”. “He has been clear that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon,” Kelly said. The White House’s statement comes after Trump said on his Truth Social media platform that Iran did not know how to sign a non-nuclear deal and that they “better get smart soon”. “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social. In the picture shared by the US president, he can he seen carrying an assault rifle. This post from Trump also comes hours after he claimed that Iran is "in a state of collapse." "They want us to 'Open the Hormuz Strait,' as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation (Which I believe they will be able to do!)," said Trump.Iran has reportedly offered to end its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifts its blockade on the country and ends the war in a proposal that would postpone discussions on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program, according to multiple media reports. US President Donald Trump seems unlikely to accept the offer, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared to rule out any deal that excludes Iran’s nuclear program.
