NIA Takes Over Tonk-Jaipur Probe After Large Ammonium Nitrate Seizure

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the Tonk-Jaipur highway explosives case. On December 31, the police seized a large cache of explosive material from a car on the highway during a special vehicle-checking drive on New Year's Eve, triggering a security alert.Around 150 kg of ammonium nitrate was recovered from the vehicle, along with 200 explosive batteries and 1,100 metres of electric wire, officials said.Officers intercepted a Maruti Ciaz car that was reportedly heading towards Bundi. The seizure was made within the limits of Baroni police station after officers.Two men travelling in the vehicle were detained and later arrested in connection with the recovery.DSP Mrityunjay Mishra said, "Explosives were seized from a Maruti Ciaz car.

150kg of ammonium nitrate hidden in sacks of urea seized. In addition, police recovered 200 explosive batteries and 1,100 meters of wire. Two accused have been arrested. One is Surendra and the other is Surendra Mochi."The arrested men are being questioned to ascertain the source of the chemical and its intended destination.

Recovery Made Weeks After Delhi Blast

The recovery has been made within weeks of the recent suicide bombing in Delhi on November 10 that killed 15 people, and injured over 30 others.That Delhi blast came a day after two large consignments of explosives - weighing 358 kg and 2,563 kg - were recovered from two houses in Faridabad during raids conducted between November 8 and 10.Investigations post-blast unravelled a multi-state terror module consisting of doctors, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir.
