Tributes have poured in from across India and around the world after the Indian women's cricket team won the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup for the first time — 50 years after their debut on the world stage. Leaders from across the political spectrum, along with business figures and sports fans, hailed the victory as a defining moment for Indian cricket and for women's sport in the country. President Droupadi Murmu led the tributes, describing the victory as a "watershed moment" for Indian women's cricket. "My heartiest congratulations to each and every member of the Indian women cricket team on winning the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025! They have created history by winning it for the first time," she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "They

Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also celebrated the team's triumph, calling it "a moment of pride." "Our Women in Blue have made history and touched a billion hearts," he said. "You didn't just lift a trophy, you lifted a nation's spirit. Jai Hind!" West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised the team's "fight and command," saying their victory would "be an inspiration for generations of young girls." She called the players "our heroes," adding, "You have proved that you are a world-class team at the apex level and you gave us some absolutely brilliant moments." Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin described it as "a magnificent display of talent, composure, and teamwork," writing on X: "This victory will inspire generations to dream big and play bold."
