Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday announced on his official X account that the party will screen the film Satluj across villages and towns in Punjab to educate the younger generation about the atrocities committed against the Sikh community during the Congress regime.Announcing the initiative in a post on X, Badal said the film highlights the sacrifices of Shaheed Bhai Jaswant Singh Ji Khalra and thousands of innocent Sikh youth and prominent Sikh personalities who, according to him, were subjected to inhuman torture during that period. In the post, Badal said the film also depicts the events following the military operation at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and the anti-Sikh violence in Delhi and other cities,
in which thousands of innocent Sikhs, including women, children and the elderly, lost their lives. He further alleged that thousands of Sikh youth protesting these events in Punjab were killed in fake police encounters during the Congress government.Stating that the party is committed to ensuring that future generations remain aware of this chapter of Sikh history, Badal asserted that the Shiromani Akali Dal would not allow these events to be forgotten.Following the sudden removal of the film Satluj from OTT platforms, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Senior Leader and Vice President Parambir Singh Romana today lauded the announcement made by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal of party organising special screenings in every village across Punjab. He said that the initiative, aims to educate the public and the youth about the state-sponsored atrocities in Punjab following the 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib.Romana stated that the film captures the immense sacrifices of human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and thousands of others who fought against state repression."This film shows the sacrifice of Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and thousands of other Sikh youth and Sikh personalities who fought against the Congress regime at that point in time," Romana said.Condemning the actions of the then-government, Romana detailed the historical context depicted in the movie, "Every Sikh needs to be aware of the history of the period that Punjab went through, of how the Congress regime of that time targeted Sikh youth, targeted Sikh people living in villages. And anybody who was considered a Sikh sympathizer, whether a lady, a woman, a girl, a child, a young boy, they were picked up, and thousands and thousands of such people were picked up and killed in fake encounters, and thrown in the various rivers of Punjab."Romana further alleged that the political establishment actively protected perpetrators of these crimes. "This film shows... how the Congress Party at that time shielded the perpetrators of this crime. How the Congress Party at that time patronized such people as KPS Gill and the other people like Ajit Singh Sandhu, which has been depicted in this movie," he added. To ensure this history is not suppressed, SAD plans to take the movie directly to the grassroots level."This movie, as directed by Shiromani Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, will be taken to each village by Shiromani Akali Dal workers, and we will organize special screenings of this movie in every village," Romana concluded.
