Earlier in the day, a suspected drone movement was noticed along the LoC, after which a joint search operation was launched by the Indian Army, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the local police. The packet is believed to have been dropped by the same drone.The contents of the recovered packet are yet to be officially disclosed, pending verification and examination by security agencies. However, sources told Times Now that IED ammunition and drugs were recovered from the packet.An Indian Army official confirmed to Times Now that a suspected packet was found near the LoC. Following the recovery, a detailed search operation is currently underway. “Further details are being ascertained and will be shared once facts are established,” the official said.

According to officials, multi-tier security arrangements had been made at various tourist destinations for the New Year celebrations and security forces intensified checking and surveillance across the valley.Additional checkpoints were set up and increased patrolling, area domination operations and surprise inspections were conducted throughout the vital roadways in the valley to avert any untoward incident.This is being seen as a first escalation by Pakistan as the new year begins. Earlier today, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi extended New Year greetings to the nation and hailed India's decision action under Operation Sindoor, saying the "operation continues even today."The COAS said, "On the auspicious occasion of New Year 2026, on behalf of the Indian Army, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens. May this New Year bring happiness, good health, and prosperity to you and your families. The Indian Army is ensuring the security of the nation with utmost vigilance and determination.""Last year, the enemy's nefarious designs were given a befitting reply through firm and decisive action under Operation Sindoor, and this operation continues even today.
