India on Sunday announced 131 Padma awards for 2026, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.Among the Padma Vibhushan awardees are former
Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandhan and veteran Hindi film actor Dharmendra, both honoured posthumously, according to the ministry.The Padma Bhushan awards include several posthumous honours. Advertising veteran Piyush Pandey, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder Shibu Soren and senior BJP leader V K Malhotra were named for the award posthumously.The Padma Bhushan list also includes playback singer Alka Yagnik, former Uttarakhand chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshyari, acclaimed Malayalam actor Mammootty and banker Uday Kotak.Former Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj was also awarded the Padma Bhushan.In the Padma Shri category, the government named Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma and India women’s hockey team captain Savita Punia among the recipients.Former Jawaharlal Nehru University vice chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and former Prasar Bharati chief executive officer Shashi Shekhar Vempati were also awarded the Padma Shri.The Padma awards are among India’s highest civilian honours and are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.(More to be updated.)
