On the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Friday, members of the Patel family came together at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat's Kevadia to pay homage to the Iron Man of India, the first
such reunion at the monument. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Patel's 182-metre-tall statue, near Ekta Nagar in the morning and paid his respects by offering flower petals. He then administered the "oath of unity" to participants of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at the Statue of Unity. A special commemorative coin of Rs 150 denomination and a stamp marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel were also released by the Prime Minister.A day prior, PM Modi met Patel's family. Sharing the experience of meeting the stalwart's kin in Gujarat's Kevadia, PM Modi wrote on X, "Met the family of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Kevadia. It was a delight to interact with them and recall the monumental contribution of Sardar Patel to our nation."

Sardar Patel had two children - daughter Maniben Patel, a former MP who remained unmarried and devoted her life to public service, and son Dahyabhai Patel, who was also active in politics. Dahyabhai married Yashodaben and later Bhanumatiben, with whom he had two sons, Vipin and Gautam Patel. Both brothers have remained away from politics, and with Vipin's death, Gautam remains the only close relative of Sardar Patel.
