In
his first detailed remarks after a breakthrough electoral debut, actor-turned-politician Vijay struck a tone of gratitude and quiet defiance, saying his party had endured sustained mockery and criticism but remained firmly rooted in public trust. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief was reacting a day after his two-year-old party delivered a stunning performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, winning 108 seats, just 10 short of the majority mark, and disrupting the decades-long dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
'Mockery and Slander': Vijay on Early Political Struggles
Reflecting on the party’s journey, Vijay said that from its very inception, TVK had been subjected to ridicule and dismissive commentary. “Since the very beginning, there were many who viewed us with mockery,” he wrote in a post on X, adding that such reactions were part of political life and did not deter the party. He emphasised that TVK chose to move forward without relying on established political backing, instead placing its trust solely in the people. “We stood boldly and fearlessly in the electoral battlefield,” he said.Taking aim at detractors, Vijay said that under the guise of neutrality and criticism, the party often faced “masked insults and slanderous attacks.”Despite this, he credited the people of Tamil Nadu for standing firmly behind the party. He described their support as “the unconditional love of a mother,” highlighting the emotional connect TVK built with voters during the campaign.Calling the outcome a “miraculous election,” Vijay said the verdict had lived up to his earlier claim that it would “send tremors through the Indian political landscape.”He pointed to the scale of the mandate and the disruption of traditional political equations as evidence of a broader shift underway in the state.
Youth and Families Played a Key Role
Vijay also underlined the role of young voters in shaping the outcome, noting that “the little ones” who encouraged their families to vote were among the driving forces behind the result.Framing the result as more than just an electoral victory, Vijay said it represented the triumph of what he called “emotional democracy” over entrenched political practices driven by money and influence. He argued that the verdict had effectively rejected a culture of money-driven politics that had taken root over time.Declaring that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam had emerged as the “primary force for change” in Tamil Nadu, Vijay expressed “lifelong gratitude” to the people for making what once seemed impossible a reality. With its strong debut performance, TVK has positioned itself as a formidable new player in the state’s political landscape, signalling a significant shift in voter preferences and power dynamics.
What Vijay Said In His Post On X
"Greetings to everyone who lives in my heart. From the very beginning of our party’s formation, many mocked us and spoke lightly of us. We accepted that this is natural in politics and moved forward. Without depending on anyone, and trusting only the people, we stood firm even in the electoral battlefield. In the name of neutrality and criticism, we were met with disguised insults and slander. But the people to whom we owe our presence in politics—our own people of Tamil Nadu—have always supported and upheld us with motherly affection, and they continue to do so.It is with that same affection that, in this election as well, they have showered us with immense love and overwhelming votes. We called this an extraordinary election that would shake Indian politics—and it has proven to be so in many ways. While there are many reasons behind this outcome, the young children who guided their families with deep affection have emerged as one of the key forces behind this remarkable election. In this political battle for a great change, it is not just our Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam that has won. It is also the emotional democracy nurtured with hope in the hearts of the people of Tamil Nadu. That is why the culture of money-driven politics, which had become a threat here, has now been buried.Through this, it has been firmly established that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is the primary force for change. Anyone with a fair and honest perspective will accept this as the truth. To my people of Tamil Nadu, who made possible this political victory for a change once thought impossible, I offer my lifelong gratitude. At the same time, while thanking our people, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of our party members, administrators at all levels, and our virtual warriors. At this moment, I also extend my love to those who may not have voted for us in this election, but who will come to support us even more in the future."
