J Angmo, the wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, on Saturday said he had been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi and urged that "nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenously without the consent of his family and doctors", who have been monitoring his health.Taking to X, Angmo said she had reached the hospital where Wangchuk was admitted. "I am at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where Sonam Wangchuk has been admitted. Nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenous without taking consent of me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days."
Her statement came following police action against protesters at Jantar Mantar. Earlier in the day,
Abhijeet Dipke alleged that he was beaten up by Delhi Police and that they have picked Sonam Wangchuk up from the protest site. He also alleged that students participating in the protest were lathi-charged.
Sonam Wangchuk Taken To Hospital
Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for the past 20 days, was taken to a Safdarjung Hospital by
Delhi Police. Releasing an official statement on the removal of Wangchuk from the protest site, Delhi Police said that the climate activist was shifted to the hospital "as per orders of the Honourable High Court and on expert medical advice due to his deteriorating health condition".The police added that they were complying with the Delhi High Court's directions. "The protestors tried to create obstruction, in which slight commotion ensued; however, police took maximum restraint and undertook the exercise safely," the police said.According to the Delhi Police statement, repeated announcements were made at the protest site informing demonstrators that the action was being taken in compliance with the High Court's orders and due to Wangchuk's failing health.
