Guwahati: In a heartfelt tribute to Assam’s cultural legend Zubeen Garg on his 53rd birthday, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on Tuesday witnessed an emotional blend of celebration, heritage, and history.From laying the foundation stone of a dedicated park in his name to setting a monumental India Book of Records feat, the day resonated with admiration for the icon whose music has touched generations.BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary led the celebrations by laying the foundation stone for the Zubeen Garg Park and statue at Chandamari, opposite the IT Park in Kokrajhar.Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Charan Boro, District Commissioner Masanda Pertin, and BTC Executive Members, Mohilary offered floral tributes to the singer, recalling Garg’s profound
artistic legacy and his deep roots in the Bodoland region.Highlighting Garg’s schooling years in Bijni and Tamulpur, Mohilary announced that BTC would take immediate steps to upgrade the institutions where the singer studied.“We share a long-standing friendship, and my ties with his family remain cordial,” he said, underscoring the personal bond behind the public honour.A blood donation camp, inaugurated by Mohilary himself, reflected the singer’s commitment to social causes.Additionally, dignitaries planted 53 Nahar saplings within the park premises, symbolising each year of Zubeen’s life and his passion for nature.In a historic moment that stirred thousands, 25,600 participants came together to perform Zubeen Garg’s iconic “Mayabini Ratir Bukut” in the Bodo language, marking the highest participation in a cross-cultural performance in Bodo.The extraordinary gathering, led by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, set a new record recognised by the India Book of Records.The performance, held at Chandamari at 3 PM, transformed the venue into a sea of emotion and unity, with voices young and old joining in harmony to honour the icon whose music has transcended borders, communities, and generations.The India Book of Records, affiliated with the Asia Book of Records and functioning under the International Protocol for Records (IPR), confirmed the feat on November 18, 2025. Known for honouring exceptional achievements with transparency and global-standard procedures, the organisation hailed the event as a celebration of unity, gratitude, and artistic inspiration.With the establishment of the Zubeen Garg Park and a record-breaking performance in his honour, November 18, 2025, stands as a landmark day — one that intertwines culture, emotion, and collective pride.
