airlines on Thursday issued a travel advisory after Iran closed its airspace to all flights, except those to or from the country operating with special permission. Air India, in a post on social media platform X, said that in view of the emerging situation in Iran and concerns for passenger safety, its flights overflying the region are being diverted via alternative routes, which may result in delays. The airline added that some flights, where rerouting is not possible, are being cancelled."We request passengers to check the status of their flights on our website before heading to the airport," it said.

IndiGo also issued an advisory stating that due to the sudden airspace closure by Iran, some of its international flights are impacted. "Our teams are working diligently to assess the situation and support affected customers by offering the best possible alternatives," it said. "This development is beyond our control, and we regret the disruption it may have caused to your travel plans. If your flight is impacted, we encourage you to visit our website to explore flexible rebooking options or to claim a refund, as per your preference," it added. Iran issues NOTAM

Iran issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) late on Wednesday night, shutting its airspace to all flights except those to or from Iran with special permission. The move comes amid reports from Western military officials that a US military action in the country is imminent. Flight tracking websites showed that airspace over Iran and Iraq quickly emptied before the NOTAM was officially issued. Airlines have been advised to reroute or cancel flights to avoid the restricted airspace.A Western military official told Reuters that “all the signals are that a US attack is imminent, but that is also how this administration behaves to keep everyone on their toes. Unpredictability is part of the strategy.”Human rights groups have reported over 2,400 protesters killed and at least 147 government-affiliated deaths. Meanwhile, Trump had repeatedly threatened to intervene if executions of protesters proceeded.
