Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, in another handwritten note from Safdarjung Hospital, said that he is "fine" now and requested hospital authorities to allow him to join the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP's) 'Sansad Chalo' protest march. The activist's handwritten letter was shared on his X account."Sonam Wangchuk is trying hard to see you all! Just submitted a letter to the hospital as his health is good and they claim he is not in detention. So why the restrictions?," his X post read.
In the letter, the climate activist said that his health has improved. "This is to state that I am feeling very fine today and my health parameters are also showing as quite normal. Hence I request you to kindly allow me to leave the hospital, even if temporarily, so that I can join the March to the Parliament — Sansad Chalo — this morning," Wangchuk said in his letter as shared on his X account.Earlier in the day also, Wangchuk wrote a letter announcing that he would end his indefinite fast today if any one of three conditions that he has set were met. In the handwritten letter shared on his social media platform on X, Wangchuk said he would break his fast on July 20 if the government accepts accountability for recent failures in the education system, including question paper leaks. As a second condition, he said he and the leadership of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) should be allowed to reach Parliament, where MPs from different political parties would assure them that the issue would be raised inside both Houses during the monsoon session, which commences from today.Alternatively, if his health or other circumstances prevent him from travelling, Wangchuk said MPs and political leaders should visit him at the hospital and provide the same assurance in person.He reiterated in the letter that he remains under what he described as "illegal detention" at Safdarjung Hospital, alleging curbs on his freedom of movement, speech and communication.On Saturday, Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk's wife, had said that the activist would end his fast if political leaders met him at the hospital and assured him that they would raise the issue of accountability in the education sector during the Monsoon Session.Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike over alleged irregularities in the education system. The activist commenced his protest on June 28, joining an ongoing demonstration organised by the CJP. The demonstration centres on demands for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following nationwide examination irregularities and the high-profile NEET paper leak controversy.Delhi Police removed Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar and forcefully admitted him to Safdarjung Hospital in the early hours of July 18 after his health deteriorated.
