The
legal battle in the high-profile death case of Twisha Sharma took a major turn on Wednesday (May 20) after a Bhopal court dismissed the family’s application seeking a second postmortem.Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman originally from Noida, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after her marriage. Since May 13, her body has remained at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary as her parents refused to take custody, alleging foul play and demanding an independent probe along with a fresh autopsy.
The family has claimed that crucial forensic evidence may be lost as the body continues to remain in storage. The controversy deepened after police reportedly informed them that the body was being preserved at minus 4 degrees Celsius, while doctors from AIIMS Bhopal’s Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology allegedly stated that a temperature of minus 80 degrees Celsius would be necessary to prevent decomposition over an extended period. The court’s rejection of the plea now leaves the family in a difficult position over whether to continue their legal fight or proceed with the last rites.
The case has triggered widespread attention due to allegations raised by Twisha’s family regarding harassment and suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Police are already investigating the matter under dowry death and cruelty-related charges, while forensic findings and digital evidence remain under scrutiny.
