Rourkela: Another incident of a student attempting self-immolation has come to light. In Odisha's Rourkela, a college student set herself on fire after dousing herself with petrol on Saturday.The severely burned girl has been admitted to the Indira Gandhi Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela for treatment.Sources said the victim is reportedly a +3 (intermediate) student and a resident of Lanjiberna village under Rajgangpur block.According to reports, the girl doused herself with petrol early Friday morning. Family members rescued her from the fire in a critical condition and rushed her to IGH for treatment.She is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital's burn unit. Her condition is reported to be critical.After receiving information about the incident,
the police visited the hospital and recorded the victim's statement. The reasons behind the incident are being investigated. A statement from the police in this matter is awaited."My daughter was studying when suddenly I heard her scream. I rushed towards her room and found her engulfed in flames, crying for help. In desperation, I tried to save her by wrapping her with a blanket," said the victim’s mother.
