New Delhi: In a significant development amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi will travel to India to participate in the upcoming BRICS summit. The development is seen as important in the strengthening of ties between New Delhi and Tehran. The Iranian Embassy in Indi confirmed the news through an X post."Seyed Abbas @araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, will travel to New Delhi to participate in the Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of BRICS member countries.," the embassy said. The BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting will be held on May 14 and 15 under India’s chairmanship and with a focus on regional stability, multilateral cooperation, and economic resilience.The

During this visit, Agharchi will hold discussions and exchange views with India's Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, as well as with other ministers and officials participating in the meeting, the Iranian embassy said."The meeting serves as a prelude to the 18th BRICS Summit, which is scheduled to be held in New Delhi under India’s presidency in September this year," the embassy added.Notably, New Delhi is set to emerge as a key centre of global diplomacy as it prepares to host the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting this week. The high-level meeting marks a major milestone in India’s 2026 chairship and underscores its leadership role within the expanded multilateral bloc.The BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting holds a special significance amid the ongoing US-Iran war that broke out on February 28 following airstrikes by the US and Israel on Tehran. Amid the ongoing hostilities between Washington and Tehran, several interactions took place between Agharchi and Jaishankar.Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will skip the meeting as his presence is required in Beijing for US President Donald Trump's three-day state visit, which coincides with the BRICS gathering, reported PTI. Chinese Ambassador to India Xi Feihong will reportedly attend the meeting on Wang's behalf, Beijing announced on Tuesday.
