Himachal: 8 Killed, 5 Injured as Private Bus Falls Down Hill in Sirmaur

Eight people were killed and five others injured after a private bus rolled down a hillside in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district on Friday, police said.The accident occurred in the Haripurdhar area when the bus, travelling from Solan, veered off the road and plunged nearly 100 to 200 feet into a gorge. Police said the bus landed upside down after the fall.Videos circulating on social media showed locals and passers-by rushing to the spot and assisting in rescue operations, pulling the injured out of the wreckage before emergency services arrived. The police were informed soon after the accident.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in a post on X, said he was deeply distressed by the tragic bus accident near Haripurdhar in Sirmaur district. Expressing condolences to those who lost their lives, the Chief Minister said he "stands in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time".Sukhu said district authorities have been directed to extend all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care. He also prayed for peace for the departed souls, strength for the grieving families, and a speedy recovery for those injured.Vice President C P Radhakrishnan also expressed grief over the incident. “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the bus mishap in Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured,” he said in a post.Industry Minister and local MLA from the Shallai assembly segment, Harshwardhan Chauhan, said the district administration has been put on alert, and medical teams at Dadahu, Sangrah and Nahan hospitals have been kept ready to handle the emergency.The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. Chauhan also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
