‘United States Is Targeting…’: US Embassy Post on X Amid H-1B Visa Delays

As Donald Trump's crackdown on H-1B visa takes effect, many Indians are facing heat, prompting India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to flag the issue with the United States both in New Delhi and Washington. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal addressed the concern and briefed that the issue has been communicated to the US side, however, he also said that the visa issue pertains to the sovereign domain of any country. "Visa related issues pertain to the sovereign domain of any country, we have flagged these issues and our concerns to the US side, both in New Delhi and in Washington, DC... Several people have been stranded for extended period, which have caused a lot of hardships to the families as well as their children's education... The

On December 26, the handle also shared a video highlighting ways to prevent visa fraud, claiming that such scam is very common than one thinks it is."Ever come across messages or agents promising guaranteed visas or faster approvals? The post comes amid the postponement of the interviews of thousands of H-1B visa applicants in India slated from the middle of this month. The delay has been attributed to authorities scrutinising social media posts and online profiles of the applicants. Some visa applicants whose US interview appointments were scheduled last week have received emails from US immigration authorities informing them that their interviews have been postponed, in some cases until May next year.The mass cancellation of H-1B visa interviews, linked to stricter vetting measures, has caused major delays in applicants returning to the US. All applicants who had interview dates from December 15 onwards have been affected.Many of these applicants were already in India and are now unable to travel back to the US because they do not currently have a valid H-1B visa. As a result, they are unable to return to their jobs.Applicants who were scheduled for interviews on December 15 have now been given new dates in March, while those with December 19 appointments have seen their interviews pushed to late May.Interviews for several other visa categories have also reportedly been postponed due to new rules requiring closer scrutiny of applicants’ social media profiles.The exact number of applicants affected by these delays is not yet known.
