PM Modi tweeted that they “reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments,” and that “India and the US will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity.” This discussion came more than a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to New Delhi."Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. Leaders Review Strategic Partnership, Global Issues
PM Modi and President Trump, according to an official statement, expressed satisfaction with the steady strengthening of bilateral cooperation across all sectors. They also discussed enhancing collaboration in critical technologies, energy, defence and security and other key areas central to implementing the India–US COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st century.The two leaders also reviewed key regional and global developments, agreeing to work closely to tackle shared challenges and promote mutual interests. Their previous conversation was in October, when PM Modi congratulated President Trump on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan, which brought an end to the two-year war between Israel and Hamas.

Earlier this month, US delegation visited New Delhi for trade discussions with Indian officials, including Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, focusing on both the ongoing negotiations and the wider economic partnership between the two countries.However, progress toward a bilateral trade agreement remains complicated by the US tariffs imposed on Indian goods under the Trump administration. These steep duties have already hurt India’s export sector, with shipments to the US falling for the second straight month in October - down 8.58% to $6.3 billion.Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said talks with the US on the proposed bilateral trade agreement are progressing. He said that the US team is in New Delhi for the negotiations."Talks are continuously progressing with them. We are moving forward towards a bilateral trade agreement," Goyal told reporters here at the Pravasi Rajasthani Divas. He indicated that he may meet the visiting US official team.A delegation led by Deputy US Trade Representative (USTR) Rick Switzer is in the national capital for two-day trade talks with his Indian counterpart Rajesh Agrawal.
Putin's Visit To India
The conversation came on the heels of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s high-profile visit to India, where he held extensive talks with PM Modi. The visit underscored the strength of India-Russia ties on the global stage, occurring at a sensitive moment when the Trump administration had imposed 50% tariffs on Indian imports linked to Russian oil purchases.Putin’s New Delhi trip was widely viewed as a showcase of deepening India-Russia relations, raising concerns in the US about the direction of Trump’s foreign policy. US Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove cautioned that Washington’s actions were contributing to India moving closer to Russia.
