Senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar on Wednesday touched the feet of his mother, Gowramma, and sought her blessings as he takes charge as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Thirteen ministers will take the oath along with Chief Minister-designate as the new Karnataka government assumes office.Top Congress leadership is expected to attend the event, including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, party general secretary KC Venugopal, and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala. Several Chief Ministers from Congress-ruled states are also likely to be present.The swearing-in ceremony will mark the beginning of the Shivakumar-led government, with further cabinet expansion expected in the coming weeks.
Who will make the new Karnataka cabinet?
Former Home Minister G. Parameshwara, a prominent leader hailing from the Dalit community, will be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister, according to the official communication sent by Chief Minister-designate Shivakumar to the Governor's office.Among the notable inclusions in the first phase of cabinet formation are Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and former Speaker U.T. Khader.As per the list, along with Shivakumar and Parameshwara, the legislators, who will take oath as Ministers are -- K H Muniyappa, K J George, M B Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, U T Khader, Esahwar Khandre, Yathindra Siddaramaiah, Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil.Barring Khader and Yathindra, all the others were ministers in the outgoing chief minister Siddaramaiah-led council of ministers.Khader had been the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Yathindra is Siddaramaiah's son.
