The family of the Tripura youth who died after an alleged racial attack in Uttarakhand has demanded a CBI investigation into the case and strict action against the neurosurgeon who treated him. Anjel Chakma, 24, a final-year MBA student at a private university in Dehradun, was allegedly attacked by some youngsters with a knife and a bracelet on December 9. He died on December 26, after being in a hospital for 17 days. The family members of Anjel Chakma have submitted a memorandum listing six demands to Tripura Cabinet Minister Santana Chakma and has also sought the intervention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.In the memorandum, Anjel’s relatives said the Uttarakhand Police should be given a 48-hour deadline to fast-track the probe, failing which
the investigation must be handed over to the CBI or a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The family alleged that the police delayed crucial steps, hampering justice. They also questioned the motive behind the killing, stating that such a brutal attack could not have occurred without premeditation. The family also demanded the immediate arrest of the sixth accused, adding that all six accused must gave equal punishment under the law. The memorandum also sought an investigation into alleged medical negligence by a neurosurgeon at Graphic Era Hospital, claiming that the doctor failed in his duty under the influence of the mother of one of the accused, who reportedly works at the same hospital.
Anjel's Family's 6 Demands To Tripura Minister
1. The Government of Uttarakhand should fastrack the investigation within a given time frame of 48 hours or else the investigation should be handed over to the CBI or SIT (Special Investigation Team) as the police has already delayed and wasted enough time in providing justice to the victim.2. We also want to know the real motive behind this murder or are there some other angle to this tragic incident because such attack can't happen without any pre-planned motive.3. As with accordance to the Uttarakhand police five accused has already been arrested while one is still yet to be caught. We demand that the 6th accused to be caught as soon as possible and all the six accused to be punished with the similar degree of punishment under the IPC (Indian Penal Code) because all the accused are equally responsible for the victim's death.4. We also demand an investigation against the doctor named as Payoz Pandey, Neuro HDU of Graphic Era Hospital who was involved in the treatment of the victim for we are certain that he did negligence in his duty under the influence of an accused mother who happen to work in that same hospital.5. We also appeal as well as demand to the judiciary system of our nation that the case to be trasferred to New Delhi for there are reasons of security and convenience. It is very hard for us to travel to Uttarakhand from Tripura whereas New Delhi is somewhat convenient where time, transportation and fincancial reasons has to be taken into consideration.6. All the accused should be given strictest of punishment as this is a cause of racial atrocity so that it gives a message to such perpetrators that law is above all and nobody ever try to commit such crime nor should anyone face such circumstances in the near future.
