IndiGo CEO to ‘Explain Why…’ and What Led to Flight Cancellations, Delays: DGCA Show Cause

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a 24-hour show-cause notice to IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer following the five-day consecutive flight cancellations and delays that have caused severe inconvenience to passengers across the country.In its notice, the aviation regulator said IndiGo failed to effectively plan crew and operational resources in accordance with the revised Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) norms for pilots. The DGCA noted that the airline's large-scale operational lapses reflected poor internal oversight and non-compliance with aviation safety regulations.The regulator further said the airline did not provide mandatory passenger support services, including accommodation, meals, and alternate travel arrangements

during prolonged delays and cancellations, in violation of civil aviation requirements.The IndiGo CEO has been asked to explain why enforcement action should not be initiated, with the DGCA warning that failure to respond within 24 hours will result in ex-parte proceedings.

Airline Says 95% Network Connectivity Has Been Re-Established

Earlier today, IndiGo, in a statement, said that over 95% of network connectivity has been re-established after the DGCA granted the airlines a one-time temporary exemption from specific crew duty regulations to help stabilise flight operations."Addressing the recent disruptions in our network, we had cancelled a significant number of flights and operated little above 700 flights yesterday connecting 113 destinations. The main objective was to reboot the network, systems, and rosters so that we could start afresh today with a higher number of flights and improved stability, and there are some early signs of improvement. Today, we are on our way to operate over 1,500 flights by end of day. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also stepped in to cap the "unusually high" ticket fares as prices surged across key routes during the disruption.
