Srinagar: An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit Afghanistan at around 9 pm on Friday (April 3). Strong tremors were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Chandigarh, and other parts of North India. The epicentre of the earthquake was reportedly located along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan Border Region near Darawan at 71.01 degrees E and 36.52 degrees N at a depth of 175 km.According to some reports, tremors were also felt in parts of Pakistan, including Rawalpindi. The exact amount of damage is not known. There are also no reports of any injuries. The tremors, which lasted a few seconds, occurred around 9:45 pm. The most seismically active region is the circum-Pacific belt.On March 22 this year, two earthquakes strike Afghanistan within hours. One of the earthuakes was of 4.5 magnitudde on the Richter Scale, while the second quake which struck the region was of 4.5 magnitude intensity. Both earthquakes occurred deep below the Earth’s surface.Powerful Earthquake Strikes Indonesia:On Thursday, a powerful earthquake struck the northern Molucca Sea in eastern Indonesia, reportedly killing at least one person and damaging buildings.
