Srinagar: In a major counterterrorism breakthrough, security agencies have uncovered a suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror module allegedly involving doctors across Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. The
investigation began after posters supporting JeM appeared in Srinagar last month, leading to a series of arrests and large recoveries of arms, ammunition and explosives.On 19th October, security agencies spotted a man putting up posters in support of JeM in and around downtown Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counter-intelligence wing tracked hundreds of CCTV feeds to identify the suspect’s silhouette. The individual was later identified as Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, who was working at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag.When police teams reached his residence, relatives informed them that Dr Adeel was attending a wedding in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Acting on this lead, J&K Police, in coordination with UP Police, arrested Dr Adeel from a hospital on Saharanpur–Ambala Road.During interrogation, the doctor allegedly revealed that a group of doctors was part of a larger plot to carry out terror attacks.
Who Is Adeel Ahmad Rather?
Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, a resident of south Kashmir’s Qazigund, was arrested from a hospital in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He had been working as a Senior Resident at GMC Anantnag until October 2024.Rifle RecoveryOn November 9, police raided GMC Anantnag and recovered an AK-47 rifle from Dr Adeel's locker. Following his arrest, investigators said multiple individuals, including doctors, have come under the scanner as part of a suspected “JeM Doctors” terror module.Arrest of Another Doctor in HaryanaFurther investigations led J&K Police and Faridabad Police to the arrest of another doctor, identified as Dr Muzammil, a senior faculty member at Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Police say Dr Muzammil has strong links to Jaish-e-Mohammed and that solid evidence has been recovered against him.Arms, Ammunition and Explosives RecoveredBased on information provided by Dr Muzammil, the Faridabad Police carried out multiple raids and made significant recoveries:Vehicle: A Swift car, reportedly belonging to a woman doctor at Al-Falah University, was seized. She is currently being questioned.Weapons and Ammunition:- One assault rifle recovered from the car.
- Three magazines and 83 rounds of ammunition for the assault rifle.
- One pistol with two magazines and eight rounds of ammunition.
- Two empty bullet casings were recovered.
