After a delay caused by dense fog, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Monday morning for a day-long visit to Assam, during which he is set to inaugurate several major infrastructure,
cultural, and security projects across the state.Soon after landing, Shah proceeded to Batadrava Than in Borduwa, Nagaon district, aboard a Border Security Force (BSF) helicopter. Batadrava is the birthplace of revered Vaishnava saint Srimanta Sankardeva and holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for Assam.Welcoming the Home Minister, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on a micro-blogging platform, "Honoured to welcome Adarniya @AmitShah ji at Guwahati Airport. This visit will mark a new dawn of growth and cultural renaissance for Assam. We look forward to his guidance as he dedicates key projects to the people."Amit Shah was initially scheduled to arrive in Guwahati on Sunday night from Ahmedabad, but his flight was delayed due to poor visibility caused by fog. Earlier, Chief Minister Sarma had flagged the possibility of a delay while reviewing preparations at Batadrava, citing adverse weather conditions over Guwahati.At Borduwa, Shah will inaugurate the ₹227-crore redevelopment project of Batadrava Than, aimed at preserving and enhancing the historic spiritual site. Following the inauguration, he is also scheduled to address a public rally in the area.Later in the day, the Home Minister will return to Guwahati to inaugurate key security infrastructure projects, including the ₹111-crore new building of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate and the ₹189-crore Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS). According to Chief Minister Sarma, the ICCS will monitor over 2,000 CCTV cameras across the city, significantly boosting surveillance, security, and emergency response capabilities.Shah will also inaugurate the ₹291-crore Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 5,000, further strengthening Assam’s cultural infrastructure. After completing his engagements, the Union Home Minister will depart for New Delhi later in the evening.
