During the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to take precautions amid the ongoing heatwave, stressing the importance of staying hydrated and following government advisories. PM highlighted India’s diverse cultural traditions, he also encouraged people to consume traditional summer drinks such as aam panna, lassi, buttermilk and sattu sharbat. The prime minister said that the drinks are both nutritious and reflective of the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat’."Currently, most parts of the country are reeling under intense heat... I it very important to take care of yourself in this season - keep drinking water, be careful while going out in the sun. Do not forget guidelines issued by various departments
of the government..." PM Modi said during the Mann Ki Baat episode. "... You are also familiar with the traditional drinks. In Northern Bharat, you will find Aam Panna... Lassi is found in Punjab and Haryana in big glasses, in Rajasthan and Gujarat, buttermilk becomes a part of every meal and in Bihar and Jharkhand and eastern UP, Sattu Sharbat is unmatched as it fills the stomach and gives energy also. Kokum Sharbat, Sol Kadhi are consumed in Konkan and Goa, in Southern Bharat, you will get Panakam, Neer Mod and Sambaram; and Bela Panna in Odisha... They also reflect the spirit of 'Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat'... You too shall enjoy such traditional drinks in summers..." he added.Earlier, in a series of posts, PM Modi had urged citizens to stay safe, remain hydrated and show compassion towards others battling the soaring temperatures. PM Modi highlighted how rising temperatures are making daily life increasingly difficult across the country and appealed to people to take precautions while also helping those around them."Temperatures are continuously rising in different parts of the country, and along with this, the many difficulties caused by the heat in daily life are also increasing. I urge all my fellow citizens to take as many precautions as possible. Please keep yourselves hydrated and carry water with you when stepping out of your homes," the Prime Minister said.Prime Minister Modi had urged all Union cabinet ministers to ensure that their respective ministries and departments take necessary steps to mitigate the impact of the prevailing heatwave conditions across the country. Addressing a media briefing after the cabinet meeting, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the prime minister stressed the need for a "whole-of-nation" approach to deal with the extreme heat situation.
