A junior female worker at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak, Haryana, has alleged that she was forced to undress and show her sanitary pad to prove that she was menstruating at the time. An
FIR (First Information Report) was filed at the PGIMS Police Station against three non-teaching staff at the university, stating that several other women workers were asked to follow the same practice, reportedly putting them in an embarrassing situation. Meanwhile, the university administration has also constituted an internal committee to probe the matter.
What Happened?
According to the complainant, a supervisor first accepted their reason for arriving late due to period pain. However, he later demanded proof after a phone call, so he allegedly called another female worker to check if the victims were telling the truth. Following the instructions, she checked the sanitary pads of the other workers and even took photographs, reported The Times of India. One of the accused denied wrongdoing, claiming he was falsely accused for merely laughing at the situation.MDU has set up an internal inquiry committee led by Professor Sapna Garg from the chemistry department. The Haryana State Commission for Women has also taken suo motu notice, calling the incident “deeply disturbing” and demanding a detailed report within five days.
Protest Outside the University
Following the incident, a protest erupted at the university, demanding strict action against the accused supervisor for making such an inappropriate demand. According to NDTV, varsity Registrar K K Gupta affirmed that the administration has been placed under suspension with immediate effect with prejudice to the pending disciplinary proceedings against him". "We will investigate the entire incident. Whoever is found guilty will not be spared. If required, a case will also be registered against the accused officers under the SC/ST Act," Gupta told reporters later.
