Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the new chief of the Intelligence Bureau, the government informed on Thursday. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared his appointment, officials said. Dixit, a 1993-batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will take over from incumbent Tapan Kumar Deka, they said.Dixit has been serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau and commands extensive experience as the head of the State Intelligence Bureau in Jammu and Kashmir.The government of India in its order said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit, IPS, Special Director, Intelligence Bureau, as Director, succeeding
IPS Tapan Kumar Deka as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier, by granting extension in service under the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16 (1A) of All India Services (Death cum Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.Mahesh Dixit spent around six years in J&K and Ladakh supervising the after abrogation of Article 370. He was leading Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) talks with Ladakh leadership as well. The officer was currently looking after pan-India anti-terror operations and insurgencies as Special Director IB.
